I started potty training my little one when he was 8 months old. It was quite easy to get him to sit on the potty training seat. All I had to do was hand him any colorful object. At one point he even started crying and then I checked his nappy. He must have pooped for sometime now and that had made him feel uncomfortable and irritated. I felt bad and at that moment it striked to me that we hadn’t tried to potty train him for over a year now. He was almost 20 months when this happened. So, next day when he was struggling to poop, I placed him in the seat. It wasn’t easy as he tried hard not to sit. Finally, I got him to sit there and after that he didn’t want to get up. After that, whenever he would start to poop and made that universal poop face, we sat him in his potty training seat. We have been doing this for few weeks now. We don’t have a fixed routine yet but at least it has made the process easy for him. At the moment, we are trying to get him use the potty training seat every time hoping that he will soon develop a routine. Even if he doesn’t, it still is far better than letting him poop in his nappy and walk around uncomfortably.

Based on my experience, I think its best to start as early as possible.
